Alpha Analytical Inc. is one of the oldest commercial environmental analytical laboratories in Nevada. Since its inception in 1987, Alpha has provided a full range of environmental analyses for contaminates in soil, water, air, industrial waste and other materials. Their staff of analytical chemists, scientists, technicians, and support personnel have extensive experience in the analysis of samples as dictated by EPA methods and various regulatory agencies. Dr. Roger Scholl, Laboratory Director, has extensive analytical experience in environmental testing, analytical requirements and data interpretation. Alpha also has an on-staff Nevada certified Environmental Manager, Randy Gardner, and a Quality Assurance officer, Walter Hinchman. Alpha is dedicated to providing quality analytical data and superior client services. Alpha's experienced professional staff and state-of-the-art facilities provide clients with quality data, flexible turn-around times and competitive pricing.
Alpha is one of the largest organic GC/MS laboratories on the west coast specializing in the analysis of ground water for solvents, fuels, oxygenates and other volatile organics. Alpha is owned, operated and incorporated in the state of Nevada. Alpha's laboratory operation is located in Sparks, Nevada. Alpha has field offices in Sacramento, and Las Vegas. With over 30 employees and one of the most state-of-the-art laboratory facilities available, Alpha handles all types of projects from tank removals to monitoring of large fuel depots, pipelines, ground water remediation programs. Alpha also specializes in testing for pesticides, PCBs, herbicides, along with the many complicated analyses required for regulatory compliance under the Safe Drinking Water Act.
All volatile organic analyses are performed by EPA Method 8260. This feature distinguishes Alpha as a high-end laboratory for those clients who need consistent, reliable data. Because GC/MS data requires no confirmation analyses, no additional charges are required for those clients who are required to confirm MTBE or other volatile organics. Although the in-house costs are higher for GC/MS data, Alpha continues to charge competitive prices for BTXE, TPH-Purgeable and other volatile analyses.

  • We offer competitive pricing and a commitment to fulfilling our customer's turnaround time criteria.
As part of our commitment to quality analytical service, Alpha has developed an intensive quality assurance program that covers all lab procedures from the time of sample receipt to data reporting. All methods and procedures are documented by standard operating procedures in accordance with Good Laboratory Practices. We maintain strict adherence to this program, knowing that our QA/QC practices are essential to validating the legal and scientific soundness of your data. Special project specific QC data options are available upon request if deemed appropriate by the Laboratory Director or the QA officer. All staff members are trained in our QA/QC practices and these procedures are supported by internal audits and reviews. Additionally, Alpha has the expertise and knowledge to write and implement a Quality Assurance Project Plan (QAPP) for specific project needs.
Alpha performs in the upper percentile of all labs in the two EPA interlaboratory Performance Evaluation (PE) analytical studies offered; the Water Supply Laboratory Evaluation Study (WS) and Water Pollution Laboratory Evaluation Study (WP). These studies, both blind PE samples, are important in determining and maintaining our laboratory's certification status for analytical data submitted under the Clean Water Act (CWA) and the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA). We currently have Laboratory Certifications in seven states: Arkansas, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas and Nevada, in addition to NELAP(Calif) and DOD. (For additional certification information see the certification status page.)
Alpha maintains the most up to date computers, software and state of the art IC, ICPMS, LC, GC and GC/MS instruments. Our analytical capabilities include analyses of Priority Pollutants, Hazardous Substances, Regulated Drinking Water Contaminants, Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons, Oxygenates, Aromatic and Halogenated Volatile Organics, as well as the tentative identification of thousands of organic compounds by GC/MS.
  • 8 GC/MSD for VOC / TPH-Purgeable
  • 2 GC/MSD for Alcohol (Methanol, Ethanol) and low level 1,4-Dioxane
  • 1 GC/MSD for BNA
  • 3 GC/FID for TPH-Extractable
  • 1 GC/FID for Dissolved Gases (Methane, Ethane, Ethene)
  • 3 IC for Perchlorate / Anions

Alpha was formed by the following three industry professionals who today personally oversee all operations to ensure the maintenance of the original standards. In addition, they have carefully chosen the professional staff who have the same standards and dedication to the original mission. These staff members are well trained technicians whose analytical knowledge is reinforced by their overall experience within the environmental industry. This experience adds value for our clients and adds to Alpha's overall commitment to customer satisfaction.

ROGER L. SCHOLL, Ph.D.

Laboratory Director
As Laboratory Director, Dr. Scholl reviews, approves and signs most final analytical data reports generated by Alpha. He is readily available to discuss and help clients interpret any results we provide. Dr. Scholl has extensive experience in gas chromatography/mass spectroscopy analyses of a wide variety of environmental and research samples. Dr. Scholl is in charge of Alpha's air sampling programs and has been the technical representative for our major ground water and soil investigations and remediation analytical projects.
